This is extremely helpful and important as the percentage of BIPOC in tech is low. This will help encourage more women to step forward into this career path without fear or insecurities knowing they have mentorship in place that are relatable and experienced.

Senior leaders can act as advocates and sponsors for women in technology, leveraging their influence and networks to create opportunities for career advancement, visibility, and recognition. They can champion women's accomplishments, advocate for their inclusion in leadership pipelines, and sponsor them for high-visibility projects or promotions.

Making sure Mentors are carefully picked and have expert knowledge in their domain. Another perspective is leadership skills. The application form for mentors should assess their leadership knowledge. It’s important to note that expertise is not equal better leader.

Mentorship has come a long way since I started my career. There were so few mentors at the beginning, and it was a challenge. Mentorship is such an important piece of navigating the complexities of Women in Tech. However, there is a notable gap that affects us all and that is the scarcity of senior women mentors.

While there are many exceptional men who offer guidance and support, their experiences do not mirror those women who have carved their own paths in a predominantly male industry. Women in tech face a distinct set of challenges and successes, and the insights from those who have experienced this journey firsthand are invaluable. These mentors can offer more than knowledge. They offer empathy that can only come from walking a similar path.

I would encourage every single one of you to mentor at least one person and as we work towards this goal, let us be inspired by the words of Charlotte Whitton:
"Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult."
