When making a career transition (especially into tech), one of the most powerful things you can do is talk to people who are already doing the kinds of roles you're curious about. Sometimes we’re not even sure what we want next, because there’s so much out there that sounds exciting. That’s where mentors come in: they can help you explore, validate your thinking, and connect you with others. Mentors who have gone through similar transitions themselves are especially valuable, as they can offer guidance that's both strategic and deeply relatable. But it’s also important to recognize the limits of mentorship. Studies have shown that women are often over-mentored and under-sponsored. Mentorship is incredibly helpful during a career transition, especially when the path isn’t straightforward.
