Mariëlle van Kooten

Co-founder and CEO

Mariëlle van Kooten is an early-stage Dutch scientist and Switzerland-based entrepreneur.

In 2010, Mariëlle was elected to serve as City Council member of Delft, The Netherlands, where she enjoyed the collaborative efforts to impact a broad range of topics that reach from infrastructure to economic growth stimulation. She obtained an MSc in Life Science and Technology in 2016 from Leiden University with honors and a PhD in Synthetic Systems Biology at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where she contributed to international efforts to build a synthetic cell.

Mariëlle is the founder and CEO of early-phase start-up SciSwipe. SciSwipe hatched at the international Falling Walls Lab in Berlin. Based in Switzerland and with an enthusiastic team of 6, SciSwipe is set to unite scientists and the general public through simple images, enabling the crowdsourced exploration of complex, large-scale data to improve human health.
