Powerful Women in Tech Personality Traits

     

    From political superpowers to tech titans, Forbes' 2017 ranking of the "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women" runs the gamut of everyone from Oprah Winfrey and Ivanka Trump to Angela Merkel and Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg.

    Porch.com took that list and used IBM's Watson™ Personality Insights API to examine speeches, interviews, and even social media commentary to decipher the more intrinsic elements of their personalities.

    We decided to present you the findings about the 13 women in tech on that list.


    The Big Five Personality Traits

    According to IBM's Watson Personality Insights model, there are five core characteristics (the "Big Five") that help define how a person engages with the world. These include agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, emotional range, and openness and are made up of personality facets that help individualize each person's values and actions.

    Openness: the extent to which a person to experiencing different activities.

    Emotional range: also referred to as neuroticism or natural reactions, emotional range is the extent to which a person’s emotions are sensitive to the person’s environment.

    Conscientiousness: a person’s tendency to act in an organized and thoughtful way.

    Extraversion: a person’s tendency to seek stimulation in the company of others.

    Agreeableness: a person’s tendency to be compassionate and cooperative toward others.

    Each big personality trait is made up of personality facets.

    Openness facets: artistic interests, intellect, imagination, adventurousness, emotionality, liberalism.

    Emotional range: cautiousness, dutifulness, self-discipline, achievement, self-efficacy, orderliness.

    Conscientiousness: altruism, trust, cooperation, modesty, morality, sympathy.

    Extraversion: friendliness, cheerfulness, excitement-seeking, assertiveness, activity-level, gregariousness.

    Agreeableness: anger, anxiety, depression, self-consciousness, immoderation, vulnerability.
