For women looking to break into the esports industry, my biggest piece of advice is to connect with other women who are already working in the roles you aspire to—or in similar positions. Reaching out to them to learn about their career trajectory can provide invaluable insights and guidance. More often than not, you’ll find a supportive ally—someone with deep industry knowledge who can offer a fresh perspective, help you navigate challenges, and expand your understanding of the field. I have had the privilege of working with several esteemed esports organizations, most recently SK Gaming, a globally recognized esports team, and Inven Global, a leading South Korean media conglomerate. As an industry veteran with nearly a decade of experience in gaming and esports, I have witnessed firsthand the evolving conversation around diversity. Progress in this area has never slowed—in fact, the further I advanced in my career, the more I saw other women rising alongside me and forging their own paths. My journey in esports began with an opportunity granted by a woman who believed in my potential, and I have carried that forward by advocating for others, as I believe all women in the industry should. While the industry remains male-dominated, especially in leadership roles, we are seeing a shift—particularly in creative and operational sectors. Women are a significant consumer base in gaming and esports, making it essential to integrate their perspectives across organizations, tournament organizers, and publishers. Throughout my career, I have held leadership roles that allowed me to collaborate with and uplift other women in the industry. At SK Gaming, I worked alongside a female director to spearhead initiatives, such as mentoring programs for women during International Women’s Month. When I first joined, the marketing, content, and social media departments had three women; by the time I departed, women were represented across multiple areas, including marketing, design, esports team management, and even accounting. These strides toward inclusivity demonstrate the industry's natural evolution, and I am proud to have been part of an organization that values the impact of diversity. A diverse team is not just about representation—it fosters innovation, creates pathways for future talent, and strengthens the industry's foundation for lasting change.
