Women in esports have steadily gained ground, supported by tournament organizers, esports teams, and sponsors who recognize that an inclusive future is the only future. Over the past five years, the competitive landscape for women in gaming has expanded significantly, offering more opportunities for them to participate at high levels. Initially, women entered esports through grassroots competitions, facing persistent challenges rooted in gender inequality. They encountered resistance from top male teams unwilling to offer them practice opportunities and faced scrutiny from the broader community. However, in recent years, the industry has taken meaningful steps toward inclusivity. While women have long been part of the professional CS:GO scene, Riot Games' launch of VALORANT reignited discussions on gender diversity in esports. In Europe, initiatives such as the Equal Esports program—backed by industry leaders like SK Gaming, Mercedes-Benz, and Deutsche Telekom—have been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive competitive environment. This long-running League of Legends tournament for women and non-binary players has laid the groundwork for Riot Games' first officially supported women's circuit in the title. I have had the privilege of being part of Equal Esports, and I can attest that several women have made their dream careers come true through the support of these organizations. While there is still progress to be made for women to thrive in Tier 1 competitions, the foundation for long-term inclusion is being established. These initiatives mark the beginning of a more equitable future in esports.
