What’s the job?

As the Assistant Vice President of Information Technology, you will assist with the leadership and management of the full set of teams supporting information technology for the Carrix family of companies. As the Assistant Vice President, you will help lead the design, development and implementation of organizational information systems, applications, and IT support to our customers. You will also assist with managing the full breadth of IT planning, processing, networking, communications, operations, and services to meet established organizational goals and objectives. As our organization continues to strive to be leading competitor in this industry, you will oversee the provision of IT, provide direction and leadership in support of our long-term goals, and serve as a critical contributor to implementing best practices across the organization.

As the Assistant Vice President, you take a player-coach approach to leadership and are fearless when it comes to rolling up your sleeves to help. You help lead people and teams across the organization, and ensure they have the resources and skills required to successfully deliver the Tideworks customer experience. Your track-record of building and motivating great teams, your passion for providing excellent customer service, and your competitive spirit enables you to contribute towards Tideworks’ most critical OKRs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Define the information technology (IT) strategy, vision and roadmap in alignment with the organization’s business strategy.
  • Manage in partnership with our Vice President the IT operations and services including Infrastructure (e.g., data centers, networks), Business, IT and solution architecture, Data management and protection, and Information security and risk management (including disaster recovery and business continuity management).
  • Determine which technologies to invest in and procure, including developing the business case.
  • Manage technology vendors for the software and hardware procured.
  • Partner with the President and other VPs to identify, rationalize and roadmap new business models and capabilities.
  • Lead the organization’s drive towards innovation and strategic thinking around enterprise architecture, innovation management and R&D, while supporting other innovation efforts throughout the business.
  • Work with business functions to understand customer and market requirements in order to translate them into products and services that enable organizational objectives and drive strategic business outcomes.
  • Determining the enterprise technology strategy, leveraging both mainstream and emerging technologies to transform IT operations.
  • Serve as the key decision maker on technology investments.
  • Assist with the leadership of infrastructure modernization, including hybrid multicloud, edge computing, containerization and automated, programmable infrastructure.
  • Determining how mainstream and emerging technologies can be used to advance business strategy and optimize business operations
  • Work collaboratively with the product and engineering teams on the development of new products, product enhancements and product redesign.
  • Establish and communicate requirements when acquiring technology applications, services, systems and equipment; negotiate and manage vendor contracts to cost, safety and performance standards.
  • Ensure that the appropriate risk assessments are made when introducing new information and operational technology into the organization.
  • Set up risk management actions so that internal and external systems are safe and secure.
  • Ensure that internal and external systems are running and performing as they should by actively monitoring and responding to incidents that might affect highly available and performant systems.
  • Manage personnel hiring, firing, and compensation during annual performance reviews.
  • Review on a daily basis OPEX and CAPEX purchases, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Address customer issues escalated through the Service Desk.
  • Negotiate local, long-distance, cellular, and private line contracts with telecommunication vendors, and negotiate and administer Microsoft’s volume licensing agreements.
  • Develop and brief executive management on IT strategies.
  • Create and manage against OKRs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Expert knowledge of information technology including networks, security, application development and engineering, products, services, support, and strategic planning, as well as IT best practices.  
  • Expert knowledge of the products and services offered throughout the Carrix family of companies and the ability to sell to a range of potential clients and to identify areas where Tideworks’ products can make a valuable impact.
  • Expert knowledge of business and technology infrastructure, architecture, and processes.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a team of global business professionals.
  • Strong talent management and leadership skills including talent development, coaching, mentoring, and team motivation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Technical Support, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s Business Administration (MBA) highly desirable.
  • 10 years’ experience working in a senior management role in technology with experience working and leading agile ways of working.
  • Deep knowledge of information technology governance including COBIT and ITIL.
  • Proven leadership and mentorship abilities, including ability to foster strong relationships with peers, direct reports, and supervisors.
  • Proven success as a mentor/coach to young professionals.
  • Proficient with G-Suite and Microsoft Office Products: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to analyze and act on various forms of business intelligence.
  • Experience implementing change across multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams.
  • Hands-on experience with a broad variety of networking equipment.

This job is located at our headquarters in Seattle just south of SODO in the Port of Seattle’s Harbor Marina Corporate Center not far from Starbuck’s headquarters.  Access by car is easy from I-5 or Highway 99, and parking is free.  There is also paved trail access for walking and biking from West Seattle and the SODO neighborhood.
