Session: Thriving, Not Surviving: Redefining Resilience for Women in Tech

Women in technology are often asked to be resilient, yet rarely are the unique pressures they face named, examined, or addressed head on. From systemic bias and unequal opportunities to imposter syndrome, burnout, and the invisible labour of being “the only one in the room,” women experience a different set of adversities to their male counterparts — and these realities have a direct impact on career longevity and success.

This talk explores human resiliency through a distinctly female lens, moving beyond the narrative of simply “pushing through.” Drawing on our research and introducing our newly developed Resiliency Quad, we will break down the four critical elements every woman can intentionally add to her life and career to thrive, not just survive. Attendees will gain practical, actionable insights to build sustainable resilience, set healthier boundaries, and create careers that are both successful and human. This session is a call to redefine resilience for women in tech — one that recognises the challenges, validates the experience, and equips women with tools to move forward with strength and clarity.

Key Takeaways

  • Resilience is not gender-neutral. Women face distinct, systemic, and often invisible challenges in tech, and any meaningful conversation about resilience must acknowledge and address those differences rather than asking women to simply “toughen up.”
  • Thriving requires intention, not endurance. Sustainable success comes from making deliberate choices around boundaries, identity, energy, and growth, not from pushing harder or sacrificing wellbeing to survive hostile or misaligned environments.
  • The Resiliency Quad offers a practical framework for action. Attendees will leave with a tangible model they can apply immediately - identifying what’s missing, what needs strengthening, and what to add to their lives to genuinely theivs
