Session: Data Carriers: From Pigeons to AI Models

In this session we will introduce you to Thomson Reuters’ rich history of providing information to professionals. We will look at how this work has evolved over time with the introduction of AI, starting from Westlaw in the 70s which provided online research services to legal practitioners all the way to Westlaw Edge which is now armed with the most recent advances in AI. We will also give you a sneak peek into the day-to-day tasks and interesting projects on which many talented researchers, engineers, and designers collaborate from ideation through to production. We will also share more about opportunities to work with the Labs, so bring your questions!

Bio

Dawn Sepehr is a research scientist in AI/NLP at Thomson Reuters Labs. At her current role, she has worked on multiple NLP projects in the legal domain. Her recent project focuses on applying NLP techniques to extract and cluster different clauses in legal contracts. Dawn is very passionate about utilizing her skills to solve real-world challenges, and also teaching topics in computer science such as programming languages and data structures to female high school and college students in an attempt to fight against gender inequality in STEM fields.

Mary Mikhail is a designer at Thomson Reuters Labs, where she works on derisking and exploring AI solutions with data scientists and engineers. Before joining the Labs, she was at Kira Systems working on UX for AI in the Legal space and she has a past life in research and documentary filmmaking.

Suneet Joshi wears multiple hats at Thomson Reuters as the Technical Recruiting and Campus Lead. Suneet has had a soft corner for technology throughout his career, dwelling from his passion for exploring new technological advancements in the Technology space, be it gadgets, coding languages, or new tools to simplify/automate day-to-day work. He is currently at the forefront of hiring for Thomson Reuters biggest Technology Centre based out of Toronto, Canada. Having had an additional background in Branding in his past stint with the likes of ThoughtWorks and Sapient, Suneet likes to plan Hiring from a bird's eye view, incorporating an excellent experience for his business leaders and the candidates.
