Session: Containerized clustered filesystems for new-age business applications in Cloud

Today large business applications with heavy information workload can run in the public cloud for various products and services. These applications need to be scalable to be able to grow and shrink based on business needs. They also need to be robust and have high availability. To meet these requirements enterprises are adopting application modernization by containerizing applications rapidly and deploying them in a clustered environment.

But containers are stateless by design as they need to be scalable and easily maintainable. But since stateful applications are containerized there is a need for persistent storage to retain application data for long time. For containerized business applications, this leads to the requirement of having storage which is scalable, highly available and accessible across geographies. Containerized Clustered Filesystems fulfils this need as it uses multiple storage systems which can reside in different geographical locations, and it can be scaled up or down based on business requirements.
This presentation will give information about Containerized Clustered filesystems which can help to meet storage requirements for new-age business applications.
The presentation will cover the below points:
1) What are containers, advantages of containerized applications and their need for storage
2) Options for providing persistent storage for containers
3) Advantages of Containerized clustered filesystems and its overview
4) Quick summary of how containerized IBM Spectrum Scale storage product helps to meet business application demands

Key Takeaways

  • Audience will learn about Containers, advantages of containerizing applications
  • Understand why enterprises are adopting application modernization by using containers
  • Understand how stateful containerized applications can have persistent storage
  • Learn about the advantages of using Containerized clustered file system for providing storage for containers
