Session: Transforming Cybersecurity: Leveraging AI and Mental Health Strategies to Achieve Balance and Prevent Burnout

In today's digital landscape, cybersecurity is vital for protecting data, privacy and integrity. Cybersecurity professionals must navigate complex challenges, understand cyber-related emotions, recognize threats, and balance technology with empathy to build resilience.

Emotions play a significant role in cybersecurity, influencing decision-making and intensifying the impact of cyberattacks, leading to anxiety and frustration. Cybercriminals often exploit emotional vulnerabilities, such as fear or empathy, in phishing attacks, underscoring the importance of emotional awareness in both defense strategies and attackers' methods.

This proposal addresses the often-overlooked mental health issues within the cybersecurity industry by suggesting two main solutions that focus on both mental and physical aspects. AI can play a crucial role in enhancing mental health through early detection, personalized support, and human-in-the-loop systems, providing virtual psychotherapeutic services and identifying disorders. This approach aims to enhance resilience and coping strategies among cybersecurity professionals. On the physical side, promoting a supportive work environment, including nurturing a positive culture and ensuring work-life balance, can significantly improve overall well-being.

Addressing mental health challenges in the cybersecurity sector is essential for enhancing effectiveness, resilience, and job satisfaction. By integrating AI for early detection and support along with fostering a supportive work environment, these mental health challenges can be effectively managed. Future research should focus on blending mental health support with cybersecurity practices, leveraging AI-driven interventions, and cultivating supportive work environments to build a resilient workforce.
