Session: Without strategy and culture there is no breakfast

We all heard the famous sentence from Peter Drucker ‘Culture eats strategy for breakfast’. It is not just that you don’t have breakfast, but lunch or dinner. Or as we saw in the last couple of months, lack of a long term sustainable strategy with a healthy culture still can run your company into the ground.
This is why it is important to reiterate that fancy sounding buzzwords like ‘We innovate’ or ‘We aim higher’ and so does not help you to build a healthy culture and does not make up for a long term strategy.
In my talk, I focus on what is tech culture, how can you actively steer it and make sure everyone brings their best self to work every day to build a first class product. I will also discuss the importance of strategy and a ‘higher goal’ for your team and how the culture deteriorates without having a consistent strategy to lead everyone in the same direction.
I will bring real life examples of companies going down the hill and ways to still turn the ship around.
I believe the talk is more and more important every day, since we are all more driven by intrinsic motivation and not by carrots and sticks anymore, how our management likes to think.

Key Takeaways

  • tech strategy
  • tech culture
  • no strategy working without the right culture
