Session: Prioritizing Personal Career Development
If you are a manager of people, chances are you've heard that career growth and personal development are the leading drivers of employee engagement. Yet, when people leaders manage their calendars, developing new skills is quick to fall off their list. Taking time to build skills sometimes feels like a selfish pursuit, when it is really one of the best things you can do for your team, your company, and your career. During this talk, I'll cover why development is so important and how development opportunities create inflection points in a career. I'll also share how to recognize a development opportunity for you (and your team).
- Taking time to develop yourself is not selfish.
- Recognizing a great development opportunity vs "just more work" for yourself will help you do so for others.
- Focus developing skills that matter to you. Pursue the things that pique your curiosity.
