Session: My Path to the C-suite

My journey to the C-suite began with my move to the U.S., a pivotal step that shaped my career and leadership path. As the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Medtronic, I lead the company’s digital transformation, ensuring it remains at the forefront of innovation in the healthcare technology industry. With over 25 years of experience in CIO and CTO roles at Fortune 50 companies such as McKesson, Southern California Edison, Toyota, and Tata Steel, I have honed my expertise in digital transformation, AI/ML, data analytics, enterprise architecture, and strategic planning. Recognized as 100 Executive Women in Technology, I am committed to leveraging technology for business success while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. My story is one of resilience, leadership, and transformation—both personal and professional.

Key Takeaways

  • The Power of a Journey - career growth often requires stepping outside of comfort zones, and taking calculated risks can lead to great opportunities.
  • Driving Digital Transformation - Digital transformation is not just about adopting new tools—it’s about using technology strategically to drive business success, a lesson valuable for leaders across industries.
  • Build a Strong and Diverse Skill Set - the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and staying ahead of trends in IT and business leadership.
  • Resilience and Leadership - Challenges and transformations are inevitable, but strong leadership requires perseverance, adaptability, and vision. Rashmi’s career demonstrates how resilience can lead to long-term success.
  • Mentorship and Sponsorship Matter - Supporting and uplifting others in their careers is crucial.
