Session: From TechWoman to TechEnbie - the impact of being non-binary in a binary world

Because being a woman in tech isn't hard enough, I came out as non-binary a year ago. How are we, as a society and a community, going to recognise and welcome the hidden people who know they don't fit in a single box, without diluting the critical messages about the larger minorities? My talk brings some possibilities to the table, but my main goal is to stimulate the debate I passionately believe we need to have.

Key Takeaways

  • There are more than two genders - take time to think about the implications of this.
  • How does the tech women community want to work with trans and non binary people?
  • What small changes make a big difference? Some things allies can do to show support.

Bio

I'm a child of the 70s, lured into tech in the 80s by the battle cry of 'more women in engineering!' and have survived as the unique one in most meetings ever since. I came out as non-binary in 2021, and am increasingly becoming active in raising awareness of trans and non-binary issues in tech.
