Women in Tech Global Awards 2025 Voices: Winner Running Mate

    Reflecting on My Journey

As a Women in Tech Global Awards 2025 winner, what does this recognition mean to you, and how does it reflect your journey and impact in tech?

This award is a powerful validation of the work we’re doing at Running Mate to become a brand synonymous with safety, one that truly meets women where they are. Building a tech platform without a technical background has been both the hardest and most fulfilling challenge of my career. I’ve also learned that creating a social-impact technology solution doesn’t always scale as quickly as other platforms, but the mission is worth every step. This recognition reinforces that we are on the right path and motivates me to stay focused on creating meaningful, lasting change.

    Tech Industry's Most Rewarding Aspects

In your experience, what is the most rewarding aspect of working in the tech industry, and how has it influenced your career path?

The most rewarding part of working in tech is the opportunity to engage with such a diverse range of founders and innovators, and to help blaze a new trail in an industry that hasn’t traditionally embraced technology beyond wearables. Running culture often centers on the latest shoe, apparel, or watch. Building a platform that addresses a critical, everyday safety challenge for women has been deeply meaningful and has shaped my career in ways I never expected.

    My Tech Career Milestone

Could you share a defining moment or a key achievement in your tech career that has been particularly impactful or meaningful to you?

Receiving awards like this one has been among the most impactful milestones on my journey. We’ve secured grants, appeared on television, and been featured across podcasts and publications, all of which continue to validate the importance of the social impact we’re striving to make. Each recognition strengthens my commitment to solving an urgent and pervasive problem for women.

Empowering Women in Tech: Real Stories, Career Advice, and Tips

From your experience, what essential advice and practical tips would you offer to women aspiring to establish a successful career in tech?

Stay true to who you are. Don’t let outside voices reshape your identity, but do listen to subject-matter experts whose insights can help you grow. Take the advice that aligns with your mission, and adapt it in a way that feels authentic to you and your company. As an older woman in tech without a technical background, I’ve been in rooms where I felt I didn’t belong, but I’ve learned that we are all students every single day. Growth comes from curiosity and humility. The moment we believe we know everything, we stop evolving.

Who would you recommend to join the WomenTech Network, and why?

I recommend Gloria Marcott with DefendHer and SoulPunch.  She runs a safety company with a physical product that has built-in tech.  She is a trailblazer in the world of self-defense, basing her skills and teachings on scientific data.  She trains women across the country to be stronger, more confident versions of themselves, and they go out to teach others.  She is an amazing, strong,  and incredibly intelligent woman.
