Reflecting on My Journey
As a Women in Tech Global Awards 2025 winner, what does this recognition mean to you, and how does it reflect your journey and impact in tech?
The award is an unparalleled opportunity to amplify my professional visibility and validate the authority I've built through years of dedicated work. It confirms that the non-linear path I've followed - one focused on continuous learning and crafting a unique niche - has yielded tangible results.
Crucially, this platform allows me to inspire and mentor the next generation. I want to share my journey to illustrate that there isn't one direct route to success. It is vital for women to recognise their unique strengths, embrace courage, and understand that their individual contributions are essential for making a global impact.
This honour directly reflects my commitment to driving diversity and fostering a growth mindset in the technology sector. It underscores the critical shift required in the industry: that a 'one-size-fits-all' approach is obsolete. The recognition of women from diverse skills, backgrounds, and experiences through these awards is how we collectively prepare for the future and successfully navigate uncertainty.
Furthermore, this award is a testament to my belief in leadership through contribution. It represents an opportunity to formalise my dedication to giving back, actively supporting other women in scaling their careers, and empowering them to champion their professional values. Ultimately, this recognition affirms that my impact extends beyond my technical expertise and into the essential work of building an inclusive, future-ready workforce.
Tech Industry's Most Rewarding Aspects
In your experience, what is the most rewarding aspect of working in the tech industry, and how has it influenced your career path?
The most rewarding aspect of working in the technology industry is its profound and ever-expanding interdisciplinary nature. It offers boundless opportunities to connect technical innovation with diverse business and human challenges.
The narrative that tech is exclusively the domain of engineers and programmers is fundamentally outdated. The modern tech landscape has grown drastically, transforming into a rich ecosystem of roles that thrive at the intersection of various fields.
The reward lies in realising that nearly every function in a corporate environment now has a critical overlay of technology. This allows for the intentional creation of hybrid, future-proof roles - such as those in UX/UI design, data strategy, and ethical AI deployment - that demand deep expertise in both technical execution and human-centric outcomes.
This specific characteristic of the industry has fundamentally shaped my career path. The ability to continuously stretch my capabilities beyond a single technical silo was highly appealing.
Rather than being confined to one area, I actively chose a trajectory that provides the 'best of both worlds': I gain exposure to complex, technical departments while simultaneously driving strategy and user value in non-technical business units. This constant cross-pollination of skills, leveraging analytical rigor alongside creative problem-solving is not just rewarding; it's the engine that has propelled my growth into a truly adaptable and influential leader.
My Tech Career Milestone
Could you share a defining moment or a key achievement in your tech career that has been particularly impactful or meaningful to you?
A defining moment in my career was leading a comprehensive, multi-year initiative that successfully bridged the gap between high-level strategic vision and measurable operational execution.
The key achievement centred on a critical multi-year strategic program. My mandate was to take a complex, future-state blueprint - spanning development and endorsement across multiple senior stakeholders - and transforming it into a robust, end-to-end execution roadmap. This involved not only building and empowering a dedicated team but also navigating the inherent challenges of delivering major transformation within tightly constrained budgets.
The meaning I derived from this was immense. It was fulfilling to manage that entire journey, from inception on paper to realising tangible, deployed outcomes. The successful delivery of the core objectives, particularly demonstrating positive ROI and achieving the desired maturity level outlined in the original strategy, stands as a testament to my ability to maintain focus, optimise resources, and drive accountability.
This achievement wasn't just about successful delivery; it cemented my capability to act as a strategic translator - turning ambitious corporate goals into concrete, successful business realities.
Empowering Women in Tech: Real Stories, Career Advice, and Tips
From your experience, what essential advice and practical tips would you offer to women aspiring to establish a successful career in tech?
My perspective is that a successful career in tech is built on a foundation of professional courage, continuous learning, and strategic networking. Here is the essential advice I offer to women starting or advancing their journey:
1. Embrace Courage and Imperfection
- Be Courageous and Take the Leap: Step outside of your comfort zone, especially when opportunities feel slightly out of reach. Tech rewards those who are willing to raise their hands for complex challenges. The biggest growth moments often follow the biggest risks.
- Prioritise Iterative Delivery over Perfection: Do not chase the myth of perfection. Instead, embrace the mindset of Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Drive iterative, measurable delivery - each milestone is a success story that builds momentum and confidence. This agility is far more valuable than delay caused by seeking an unattainable, perfect solution.
- Be Patient and Resilient: The tech journey is rarely linear. Resilience is the superpower that allows you to learn quickly, adapt, and return stronger.
2. Strategic Skill Building and Differentiation
- Leverage Your Unique Skillset Beyond Coding: You do not need to be a core technical expert (an engineer or programmer) to have a highly impactful tech career. Focus on understanding the mechanics of technical jobs and integrating your unique background - whether it's in communication, finance, psychology, or operations - to build a differentiated tech portfolio. The industry thrives on hybrid skills.
- Find a Passion Project to Drive Expertise: Identify an emerging area within tech, such as ethical AI, sustainability tech, or data storytelling, that genuinely excites you. Invest time in making that your unique niche. Becoming an expert in an adjacent, high-growth domain will elevate your visibility and authority faster than generalised knowledge.
