Purpose of the Job

Macmillan Education Botswana is seeking to appoint a Publisher to support the Publishers involved in the Botswana submission of high-quality and profitable projects for the BSSE Form 4 and 5, with emphasis on cost effectiveness, high approval results and timeous delivery within the parameters of agreed schedules.

Requirements

  • A publishing or teaching qualification.

  • Minimum of 5 years Publishing and/or teaching experience 

  • A teaching qualification and background or a publishing qualification

  • Publishing or teaching experience will be an advantage.

  • Understanding of the educational publishing industry and education environment

  • Ability to interpret subject curricula, policies and related documentation for secondary level

  • Understanding of copyright and contract compliance and processes

  • An ability to switch between print and digital media would be an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, coordinate and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong in systems administration and workflow management

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and consistently  meet deadlines

  • Able to work independently and within a team

  • Obtains key internal and external contact information required for publishers to set up planned meetings with authors, schools and Department of Education.

  • Prepare all related packs and materials required for planned visits by the publisher during such visits and meetings, i.e. agenda, support documents, promotional items, etc., as requested by the publisher.

  • Gather specific internal and external information requested by the publisher, i.e. updated enrolment numbers and related information, curricula and policy  documents

  • Prepare invoices for payment in line with payment cycles and procedures; ensure that all support documents are attached according to the invoice process for the processing of payments.

  • Follow up and follow through on author and supplier payments; provide PoP’s to authors and suppliers.

  • Provide authors with support documents for commissioning as required and competitor products.

  • Assist authors and publisher with sourcing of in-house photos and existing artwork.

  • Refine artwork briefs in consultation with Publisher: Refine all artwork briefs to align with the text. Refine the artwork descriptions and add more references if needed. Ensure that all artwork briefs are complete before handover to PSD

  • Product training: Prepare presentation packs for the sales team; the publisher to advise what goes into product training packs and complete the Product knowledge forms. The publisher can request assistance during such Product training sessions.
