Session: 3 reasons to ignore job qualifications and have the confidence to apply

According to a LinkedIn Gender Insights Report, women apply for 20% fewer jobs than men, despite similar search behaviors, and often assume they don’t qualify for the job before they even apply. This gap of confidence is front and center in the tech industry. Despite making up 47% of the workforce, women only account for 27% off computer and mathematical science jobs.

These stats are just a few of the many reasons why Minami Rojas is passionate about helping women in the industry realize their value and show their worth as they work their way to the top of leadership teams. Championing women’s career growth has always been at the forefront of Minami’s mission, but as a leader, she has a moral obligation to take action in equalizing these numbers and leveling the playing field for all women.

From landing a dream job at Google to experiencing PagerDuty’s IPO, Minami attributes much of her career growth to three things: proactive planning, confidence, and being willing to say yes to new opportunities. In this session, attendees will learn from Minami’s experiences and will walk away with actionable insights needed to climb the ranks with confidence, pride and a purpose.

Key Takeaways

  • Career plan often and out loud: Minami will share the importance of treating your career as the most important project you need to manage. Minami will share ideas for personal reflection like taking 30 minutes once a month to update and reflect a career
  • How to apply for the job and ignore the qualifications: Minami will share things to focus on in the job search other than qualifications, such as responsibilities of the role, company information and the team environment.
  • Say yes to scary ideas: Minami firmly believes that discomfort is a sign of growth, and the more women push themselves to be comfortable with the unknown, the more willing they are to accept new challenges.
