Female data scientists often find themselves uniquely positioned when addressing bias in AI, not only as technical experts but also as individuals who may have firsthand experience with bias. This dual perspective allows them to approach AI development with a heightened awareness of fairness and inclusivity. One way they navigate bias is by actively questioning datasets and assumptions. Instead of taking “clean data” at face value, they challenge whether the data reflects diverse populations or unintentionally reinforces stereotypes. Many also advocate for interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing voices from ethics, social sciences, and domain experts into the AI pipeline. Equally important is raising visibility, sharing research, contributing to policy discussions, and speaking openly about bias in technical forums. By combining rigorous technical skills with advocacy for equity, female data scientists are not only mitigating bias in AI but also reshaping what responsible AI development looks like.
