At the WomenTech Network, we’re fortunate to have a wonderful, global community of ambassadors who help us spread the word about our work and who helped us make the WomenTech Global Conference 2020 a success and continue helping us on or mission to unite women in tech. We would like you to meet these wonderful people as well; therefore, we’re going to be introducing you to some of our most active members.
Today, get to know Shivani Vashishta:
Shivani Vashishta is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Technology from The NorthCap University, Gurgaon, India. Furthermore, she's a member of the World's largest youth-run organization, AIESEC and has been working in their development sector, Hunger Hero, as well as an Associate Member at Zomato Feeding India, handling over 7 cities. Shivani is a member of the Women in Engineering Coordination Team at IEEE INDIA COUNCIL and a Vice-Chair at IEEE Women in Engineering affinity group.
In my opinion, the biggest challenge facing the tech industries today is the risk and threats to security and privacy. The Tech industry is fast-paced and has shown tremendous advancement over recent years. With companies dealing with big data, the protection of valuable information becomes critical and non- viable to handle.

What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?
I would like to quote the US former First Lady, Michelle Obama, “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”
I strongly believe that women have the power to aspire and achieve what they set their minds to. Women considering a career in the tech industry should not hesitate to work and explore that arena simply because it has been known as a man’s job in our stereotypical societies for so long. They must believe in themselves, their capabilities, and the strength to take up a career of their choice.

Do you think we need to be writing code to be in the tech industry?
No, I don’t think that women need to be writing code to be in the tech industry. There are various other roles in the tech industry such as project manager, product manager, technical writer, etc. that require no coding at all.
However, having adequate coding knowledge might elevate their confidence and they wouldn’t be fooled or taken advantage of at their workplaces.

Can women have kids and a tech career?
Yes, definitely.
There are thousands of women working in Tech and efficiently managing it with their personal life. And not only in the tech arena but in other fields as well. I believe that women are more organized and stronger to juggle between multiple tasks or roles.
Ms. Anna Radulovski is the biggest example and role model for the same. She has spearheaded a conference on a global level and has managed to take care of her few-months-old baby simultaneously.
I have come across many women like her who are managing their families and leaving an impact in the world. We are all proud of them.
