I recently learned of higher learning opportunities that afford at least full tuition towards a college degree if your income is below a certain threshold. I also learned that the information is not publicized or widely shared. Now, you can search and find it online, but when I shared this information with some family and peers, even they were shocked to hear the news. Now this is not a write up to shame any of these institutions and you may notice that I have not dropped any names. 😉 It does, however, bring light to the my precious mindset many of us, naturally carry as human beings. We think of self in so many ways, that we often forget to slow our thoughts and think of others first. In local government, many agencies have indigent health care services, information about what they provide on their respective websites, but in community, there is a large population of people that are unaware of this information until someone else tells them. Take it over to public hearings and court meetings via City Hall or County Commissioners. Publicized online, but much of the community seems to not grasp the understanding that they are WELCOME and the officials encourage citizens to attend. These meetings discuss city and county business matters that relate to where you live, work and go to school. While I can go on, I say all of this to say – There is Power in Sharing. The information and knowledge you have gained along your journey to success is critical to others. I cannot tell you how many people I have walked through obtaining a DBA and tax ID. They were astonished about how easy the process was and moreover, it was a reminder that we live in a country that affords the opportunity to be in business for yourself. I have had a very good friend of mine and fellow #womanintech, Ashley Bodden, tell me about a CJIS certification she took and what the certification entailed. During that phase of my career, it applied to my role perfectly. I looked it up, studied the material and added a new certification to my resume and technology training. Some great friends of ours invited us to a church that offered some great community groups, events, and other services that I would have never even knew existed if the invitation to visit was not shared. I challenge you to think of what you have learned along the way in your life and where you live today. What is going on in your community and the way you serve others? What information can you share to help your neighbor, family member, child, friend or co-worker? Are there family friendly parks with splash pads your new neighbor should know? Are there local business grants available for new start ups? Are there housing options towards home ownership or homebuyers educational courses available? Do you know someone without transportation that could benefit from local transit services? Is your local chamber of commerce putting on networking opportunities related to your field of study or work? The list goes on and on and while we may not live in the same city, we are all connected and empowered to share community wide. Sharing has power to build, help, nurture, and grow. I hope that power does not stop with you.
