Access to funding is a continuing challenge for women with tech startups. According to the World Economic Forum, women founded startups accounted for less than 2% of venture capital funding in 2022 in the United States. And this is despite female-led startups having higher returns on the funding they do receive compared to their male counterparts.

While getting funding continues to be an uphill battle for many female-led startups, there has been significant and positive shifts showing attitudes toward female founders may be changing. The number of deals for women-founded teams over the last decade has grown more than twice as fast as male-founded teams. The success of women-led team has contributed to this shift, according to Catherine Gray, Founder at She Angel Investors. Women led startups tend to generate higher revenues and create more jobs than their male counterparts.

Additionally, some organizations have created funding programs catered to the unique needs and challenges facing women entrepreneurs. These funding programs may offer financial support, as well as training and networking opportunities.

Changing perceptions of female entrepreneurs and women-backed funding programs are making it easier for female-led startups to survive and thrive.
