Session: Sustain in a Smart Way

A famous saying goes "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children". As the expectations on corporate responsibility increase, companies recognize the need to act on sustainability. In this presentation, I would like to take few examples on the usage of unsustainable resources within our organization which can be reduced or replaced with latest technologies as Smart alternatives that will pave way for sustainability.

Many organizations use plastic (unsustainable material) photo ID cards for authentication and authorization purpose. These ID cards are used by employees or visitors to get access to the restricted areas inside the office buildings. The number of these plastic cards can be in thousands for a bigger organization. We can replace these plastic ID cards with Smart technologies like multi-factor authentication through mobile, facial or fingerprint recognition.

Another use case is to reduce the usage of paper which contributes a greater percentage to land pollution. Similar to paperless statements in most banks, organizations can also adopt to have paperless contracts with employee and clients through e-Signing.

We have to develop the will to be sustainable by starting to act on the day to day things we utilize and to ponder how to make it more climate friendly, by adopting sustainable practices powered by technology which will in turn creates a huge impact on Society.

Key Takeaways

  • Key initiatives to reduce plastic footprint within organization
  • Reduce the usage of unsustainable materials by replacing them with Smart (Tech) alternatives
  • How efforts of Women in Tech can pave way to a sustainable society

Bio

I am a highly-motivated and enthusiastic software professional with 10 years of experience in handling mission-critical applications from development & implementation, to maintenance for large organizations. I completed my Bachelors in Computer Science and Engineering and started my career as a software developer, and have worked with diverse teams in the United States, Europe, and Asia. I am always fueled by my passion to continuously learn and leverage the latest technologies available to bring out the best. I am married to someone who encourages me in every step I take and has a 2-year-old daughter who teaches me every day to find new ways of solving a problem. I believe that creativity in the workplace is the key to success—a concept I live out through my interests in board games, painting, and cooking.
