Michelle Dunivan Bio (LinkedIn)
Michelle Dunivan, an Analytics Director at Best Friends Animal Society, embarked on a career pivot from academia to the tech industry. Her journey began as she realized that pursuing tenure in academia wasn't her ideal path. She transitioned to coursework and an advising team that prepared her for a non-academic career. Her first job post-doctorate aligned with her dissertation topic and introduced her to the realm of business intelligence. Notably, she built a data culture within her organization, overcoming challenges of data access and resistance to change. Michelle's proactive approach involved proposing grants for resource access, collaborating with IT, and engaging business leaders. Her efforts resulted in a successful project roadmap and the integration of previously siloed research departments, fostering a data-centric community. Today, she continues to deepen the data culture, scale products, evaluate programs, and explore predictive analytics in her role.
