Surika Sookram Bio
Dr. Surika Sookram has been at the forefront of women, entrepreneurial programs, and community initiatives. She worked hard, showed perseverance, and continually brings her passions to the table in the IT industry. She has worked in top 40 JSE-listed and large blue-chip companies where she held various roles including leadership roles. She is currently a senior consultant at NTT (technology-based company). She holds a Ph.D and was awarded university funding for her thesis. She was the only female awarded a PhD in Information Systems at UKZN in her graduating class. She mentors and coaches’ other entrepreneurial women globally through organisations such as the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women. She also serves as an SME Judge at the Tony Elumelu Foundation. Sookram is also an executive and board member of Family South (FAMSA). She believes healthy families are the foundations for young girls to reach their dreams. She has received numerous awards including being placed as one of the Fifty Inspiring Women in STEM in South Africa by the Netherlands Consulate and recognised by the Mail and Guardian as one of the 50 women of power in South Africa.
