The Role

At Personio, we’re building the leading People Operating System for small and medium-sized businesses across Europe.

As a Lead Full Stack Engineer, you will join the Performance & Development team, responsible for making Personio’s performance and development products feel effortless, intuitive and delightful for our customers.

This team owns the product surface and workflows that companies rely on to assess performance transparently and fairly and to support the growth of their people: review cycles, performance ratings, feedback, development plans, goals, trainings and surveys. Our work directly shapes how employees and managers experience feedback and growth, making performance and development feel transparent, fair and stress-free.

You’ll work across frontend and backend systems to deliver customer-facing features that thousands of customers depend on every review cycle, from net-new products to improvements of existing ones.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Build full stack features that make performance and development management intuitive, fair and transparent for customers, from review cycles and ratings to feedback, goals and development plans

  • Design and implement backend services that surface the right data at the right moment for employees, managers and HR

  • Shape and deliver net-new products as well as close product and quality gaps in our existing performance and development offering

  • Develop workflows that keep users in control of every step, from running a review cycle to following up on goals, trainings and surveys

  • Improve the usability and clarity of customer-facing workflows, reducing friction and building customer confidence

  • Collaborate closely with product managers and designers, and join early in product discovery to help shape what gets built

  • Take initiative: dig into problems yourself, unblock yourself and move solutions forward instead of waiting for direction

  • Write technical design documents and contribute to architectural decisions that shape the future of our performance and development products

  • Ensure high performance and reliability across all customer-facing features, and share ownership when incidents occur

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience as a Full Stack Engineer

  • Experience working across frontend and backend systems

  • Backend experience with languages such as Kotlin and Java

  • Experience building modern frontend applications (React or similar frameworks)

  • Ability to deliver user-facing features end-to-end

  • Strong collaboration skills with product and design teams

  • AI Fluency: You have hands-on experience using AI to improve your workflow, and the sound judgment to know exactly when to rely on it and when to step in yourself.

Nice to have:

  • Background in building customer-facing SaaS products, B2B or B2C

  • Experience designing complex, multi-step workflows or data-rich interfaces, such as review cycles, forms or dashboards

At Personio, we value in-person collaboration while also offering flexibility. This role is office-based, with 2 days per week required in your contracted office location. The remaining days can be worked from home or in the office if you prefer. In addition, you’ll have 20 Flex Days per year to work remotely from other locations.
