About the Role:

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to contribute to the growth of our hybrid Humanities and Social Sciences journals, SN Social Sciences and SN Business & Economics. In this role, you will handle key editorial and day-to-day administrative tasks, build and maintain good working relationships with prospective and existing authors, reviewers, and board members, and provide valuable support to the Senior Editor. There will also be scope to become involved in journal development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Managing journal pipelines by processing manuscripts from submission through to final decision.
  • Work with Editors to ensure authors are supported in meeting the publishing needs of the journals and are able to adhere to editorial policies and compliance requirements.
  • Act as a point of contact for authors throughout the manuscript journey, building relationships and trust in our processes, striving to improve author satisfaction.
  • Handle email correspondence between the various parties involved in the publication process; (Authors, Reviewers, Editors, Guest editors, Readers, etc. for the assigned manuscript)
  • Provide inputs on improving the process to reduce TAT and manage pipeline at various .stages of the editorial process.
  • Support Editors throughout the process, creating excellent working relationships.
  • Collaborate and build rapport with Journal editorial staff for continuous improvement/updates and new initiatives in the process.
  • Mentor and support new team members.
  • Supporting Editorial Board engagement and recruitment.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date reports on all aspects of editorial process.
  • Contributing to journal development and article solicitation projects.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Experience 

  • 2 years of full-time work experience

Must have Skills

  • Desire to establish/take next step on a career in academic publishing;
  • Excellent English language skills – both verbal and written communication;
  • Should have an understanding of Research Integrity and be able to identify, escalate, and support issue resolution.
  • Strong proofreading skills and a sharp eye for detail;
  • Proficient computer skills — Word, Excel, and web-based technology;
  • Professional approach to engaging with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exceptional organisational, prioritisation and time-management skills;
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team;
  • Aptitude for following instructions and carefully adhering to established procedures;
  • Reliable and proactive approach to problem solving;
  • Clear and confident presentation style;
  • Ability to spot research trends and hot topics.

Desirable:

  • Previous publishing experience (e.g., using editorial submission systems, working with editorial boards) is advantageous but is not essential.
  • Demonstrable interest in developments across the humanities and/or social sciences;
  • Awareness of the HSS scholarly publishing landscape and hybrid publishing.

Qualifications       

  • A master’s degree or equivalent degree in related fields, such as social sciences or management, is a plus
