About the Role
Book Production & Publishing Services, by incorporating standardized systems and workflows, manages the process of producing content with good and consistent quality metadata to support our role as an ePublisher. This allows our global audiences to use our products through a variety of reading devices, both electronic and paper. We work with vendors that incorporate our workflows, automate processes wherever possible, follow standardized procedures and create our content in full text XML which is the essential foundation for producing materials that can be utilized in the electronic environment.
We are looking for our department Book Production & Publishing Services for a Project Coordinator (m/f/d) who will ensure timely & high-quality book publications within the SRG framework of policies and production standards.
This role will be in our Heidelberg office on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
- Ensures the on-time delivery of an assigned list of projects that are produced within budget and meet Springer Nature quality standards.
- Tracks book process from post-acquisition through production to post-publication.
- Utilizes thorough project management skills to proactively resolve post-acquisition, production, and post-publication issues.
- Advocates for and fosters Springer Nature standards, makes sure that they are correctly used.
- Oversees vendor performance through to agreed upon publication deadlines and provides feedback with emphasis on standardization and efficiency.
- Communicates with Authors/Editors, Vendors, Publishing Editorial, and other Stakeholders as required.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent command of both spoken and written English.
- Ability to work effectively in a complex, diverse, and dynamic environment.
- Strong problem solving and organizational, i.e. priority oriented, skills.
- Ability to manage multiple and diverse projects at the same time.
- Adherence to schedules and quality also when under time pressure.
- Experience in book production and cooperating with acquisition editors and (mostly offshore/Indian) full-service vendors.
- Solid understanding of print and online publishing formats & tools (XML, HTML, ePub)
- Experience with MS-office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), LaTeX and PDF.
- Interest in content & process management and workflow systems and their optimization.
- Keeping up to date with procedural and technical upgrades.
- Mentoring & supporting vendor staff, and guide authors & editors as well as publishing colleagues on policies & production standards (copyediting, typesetting, printing).
