The Manager, Software Applications Development is an information technology professional who takes accountability for the people management of a Software Development team, and drive them to success in the development of new applications and meet business requirements. This position also implies active contribution in the development activities, either as Architect or Developer, leveraging strong technical skills in Software Development.

Key role and responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Provide strong leadership, guidance and mentoring of a team of software developers, business analysts, product architects and application architects who strive to deliver world-class software applications
  • Lead and manage the team in the achievements of team and individual objectives
  • Lead the definition and continuous improvement of solution delivery methodologies, standards and tooling from ideation through production
  • Drive the adoption of the new ways of working including Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) standards, processes and tools with both IT and Business stakeholders: providing thought leadership to senior executives on new development methodologies
  • Manage the end-to-end integrated DevOps toolchain and the associated portfolio of SDLC solutions required to enable the defined methodologies and to facilitate the automation of the SDLC processes

Performance Management:

  • Conduct regular performance reviews of the team members and provide constructive feedback
  • Identify opportunities for skill development and growth
  • Facilitate cross training and teamwork to support skills development and foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Oversees and manages the provision of the relevant documentation, training and support to the relevant teams to ensure the highest level of performance

Communication:

  • Facilitate clear communication within the team and with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure effective collaboration between different roles and functions
  • Work closely with Project Manager and Architect roles to ensure alignment with project objectives
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven team environment
  • Partners with key contacts outside own area of expertise and other external stakeholders

Decision-Making:

  • Make informed decisions, considering input from various team members
  • Ensure decisions align with project goals and organizational strategy
  • Decide on best approaches, and methods to achieve desired results; tools, methodology, services, platforms...

Solution Design:

  • Acts as the interface to the Go-To-Market team to position the teams' services on the market and to develop the teams’ strategy together
  • Develops team strategy together with the Business Development Manager role
  • Lead the solutions design and architectures in relation to Cloud Native Services, Data, and AI projects 
  • Helps determine how technology can be applied to meet external client and business requirements by crafting high level solutions and work breakdown
  • Researches and investigates emerging infrastructure and application technologies and the best practices associated with them

Knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Ability to build a cohesive team and to manage people effectively
  • Ability to coach, mentor and develop the team
  • Ability to balance and plan the medium- to short-term actions of the team
  • Ability to handle financial metrics and objectives
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to be influential and persuasive with stakeholders
  • Ability to manage time effectively while setting the tone of the team through modelling and leadership
  • Good knowledge of project management principles, Agile and Waterfall
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices for software applications development
  • Relevant technical skills such as programming languages, complex programming applications and troubleshooting
  • Competent in writing and executing complex code
  • Solid presentation skills
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills
  • Solid understanding of data management concepts and principles, including data quality, data governance, data security, and data lifecycle management.
  • Solid understanding of software design patterns and software architecture best practices

Academic qualifications and certifications:

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology or related field of study
  • Certified Software related certification is desired
  • Scrum / Project Management certification

Required experience:

  • At least 10 years' experience in similar role within a large scale (preferably multi- national) technology services environment 
  • Advanced demonstrated experience in building, managing and leading software development people as a line function
  • Has had previous people management responsibilities and/or allocation of resources within a department or project environment
  • A minimum of 5 years in a people management role such
  • Advanced experience with a strong background in all aspects of software application development
