About PrograMaria
PrograMaria began in 2015 from one question: why are there so few women in technology? Founder Iana Chan turned her experience with sexism in the tech industry into a collective action. What began as a small coding club grew into a pioneering movement that empowers thousands of women and gender-minoritized people to claim their space in tech.
Formalized in 2018, PrograMaria evolved from in-person workshops to the Eu ProgrAmo Courses, offering Front-End, Back-End, and Data Analysis programs — always with mentoring, peer support forums, and scholarships for people in social vulnerability. The goal goes beyond teaching programming: it’s about creating a safe environment where each student can discover their potential, gain autonomy, and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.
PrograMaria also hosts events such as Encontros, Fala, Sprint, and Lidera, and the PrograMaria Summit — the largest gender and tech diversity event in Brazil, inspiring and connecting thousands.
Today, as it celebrates 10 years of impact, PrograMaria has reached over 150,000 people, trained 16,000 students, built an email community of 50,000, and gathered 3,756 registered members in its active community.
