Session: My Network is my Google

In my talk, I will touch upon the power of networking and how this life skill - that is unfortunately not (yet) thought at universities, or even high schools, has transformed my life, privately and professionally.

I don't Google things, I ask my support circle, about anything and everything. From the best places to go out, to books to read, classes to visit, and jobs that circle around and that are not available at the job sites.

I am a giver and believe that the power of the network is about the number of people we can introduce to one another, instead of collecting business cards and contacts over LinkedIn.

I am currently on maternity leave in Vienna and I continue meeting people and creating opportunities for others to meet one another (like monthly get2gether for the Making it in Austria community) instead of meeting people in boardrooms, I meet them in the local park and share regularly my tips and insights via LinkedIn (#adelamdz).

Key Takeaways

  • Networking is about giving and can be done from anywhere, at anytime and at any level.
  • Create your own network that will be inspiring and supportive and will be a multiplicator for good things and projects.
  • Finding a job through the network is possible and it starts by asking and engaging your network.
  • Get to know your circle as best as you can and remember the details that are not on the CV.

Bio

Adela is a fresh new mom, Forbes featured female tech leader, frequent international speaker, and mentor.

Originally from Bosnia, 8+ years ago she moved to Austria with her husband and started building her career in tech from scratch.
Without any job, contacts and not knowing German language.
Today, she works at the executive level of the IoT software company MAVOCO AG and serves as the VP of the Association of Business Women of B&H.

In December 2020 she launched her own YouTube Channel – Making IT IN Austria, where she interviews inspiring people from all walks of life, who have made a successful career or business in Austria.

She strongly believes in the power of networking and building long-lasting relationships for advancing one’s career and she had been very vocal about it through her extensive LinkedIn network.

Her tips and tricks on networking have helped thousands of people globally and yes, even introverts have started believing in it and started creating their own support circles and organizing their first virtual coffees.
