Session: Why quality data holds the key to solving our energy crisis

We’re living in the golden age of what’s been coined as the measurement economy. But when it comes to climate change, there’s a significant lack of data. This lack of real-time data has far-rippling repercussions, and we cannot measure or eliminate environmental impact without high-fidelity data that helps operators and leaders make actual informed decisions. Simply put: you can’t improve upon what you can’t measure. Data is king, and we can use it to hold companies and governments accountable. Anna can unwrap the complicated challenges of data in the energy sector, talk about the new technologies emerging to solve these issues, and how she is continuing to drive change in the oil and gas industry.

Key Takeaways

  • Unwrap the complicated challenges of data in the energy sector
  • Identify new technologies emerging to solve these issues
  • What is needed to continue driving change in the fight against climate change

Bio

As an atmospheric scientist, Dr. Anna Scott has worked on projects around the world with the Red Cross/Red Crescent’s International Climate Center, NASA, The World Bank, and numerous local governments, and now operates as the Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of Project Canary. After graduating from Johns Hopkins with her PhD in 2018, Anna developed technology for an optical sensor and founded Troposphere; an environmental monitoring company focused on air and water. She played a critical role in securing venture funding and patents, and was selected to join the Techstars Austin Impact class of 2018. After leading a strategic acquisition of Troposphere by Project Canary, a climate-tech ESG data company, Dr. Scott works to help oil & gas companies monitor their ESG data and reduce emissions to combat climate change.
