Session: The Espresso Shot That Launched a Community of Thousands
We all start with good intentions - to support more women in tech, build an inclusive community, and make a positive difference. But how do you translate those intentions into actual impact?
This session shares our journey taking the seed of an idea and nurturing it into a vibrant, 1,000-member strong women in tech community over three years. It began with a casual coffee chat among a few of us with passion and drive, but no concrete plan. Through trial and error, we discovered a process for turning good intentions into powerful mechanisms for change. You'll hear how we aligned on a focused mission and brand, designed a structure to coordinate contributions, attracted partners and sponsors, hosted valuable initiatives, removed barriers to participation, measured what matters, and constantly iterated. Most importantly, we'll reveal the mindset shifts, skills, and key decisions that allowed us to transform our passion project into a sustainable force for women in tech. Whether just starting out or hitting roadblocks with an existing effort, you'll leave with a renewed sense of possibility and tactical roadmap to make your intentions powerfully real. Because good intentions alone are not enough - this is a call to relentlessly execute, adapt, and create mechanisms that allow women to thrive in technology.
