Session: A Blueprint for Virtual Hallways: Creating Kismet Inside Your Company

Future-proofing your firm requires transforming your company into a community. The war for talent will be won by companies that lead with a 'people first' approach and give their employees space and time to connect.

Companies are driven by what we do & build together. Since you can no longer wander the office hallways hoping you bump into the right people, organizations must build new Virtual Hallways that connect your people to your people. Organizations must meet their people wherever they are. Solutions like open floor plans & ping-pong tables have fallen flat like day-old kombucha. Employees value each other, not perks.

Virtual Hallways help you gain a better understanding of what employees actually want & need while building the listening & co-creation mechanics needed to design effective policies & benefits. Leading organizations will transform into destinations where people come for community, collaboration, and learning.

Key Takeaways

  • Virtual Hallways are facilitated opportunities for people to connect. All good Virtual Hallways rely on the three C’s: Community, Collaboration, and Coaching.
  • Virtual Hallways are built on A-H-A moments. These are scheduled, voluntary times during “working hours” for your people to connect for a facilitated discussion.
  • Authentic - Big groups are the enemy of authenticity. Try a mix of group sizes. Success shouldn’t be judged by attendance but by how engaging the discussions are. Randomly assigning breakout rooms is a great way to connect people who might not otherwise.
  • Human - Focus group discussions on specific topics across professional, personal, & familial identities. Vulnerability, authenticity, & transparency help drive empathy. Invite leaders in to share. Empathetic leadership is most powerful.
  • Awareness - Develop traditions & repeat events with consistency. In designing topics, ask ‘why this, why us, why now’. Embrace the flow; some of the most meaningful moments are unplanned and unexpected.
