Session: That Awkward Moment When Your ERP Thinks It's Still 1998

In modern enterprises, a significant and costly disconnect exists between high-level strategic planning conducted in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and the real-time operational realities of the factory floor. While ERPs excel at resource management and financial forecasting, they often operate on a time scale of hours or days, creating an "execution blind spot" in environments that function in seconds. This gap leads to operational inefficiencies, costly unplanned downtime, and a failure to leverage the institutional knowledge of an experienced workforce. As a result, many organizations find themselves in a constant state of reactive firefighting, unable to translate strategic goals into predictable, data-driven execution.

This presentation will explore a new paradigm for achieving operational excellence by bridging this gap with intelligent automation. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in digital transformation and insights from cutting-edge research at UC Berkeley's AI Lab, this session will introduce the "Plan-and-Act" framework. This model separates high-level strategic planning from low-level, adaptive execution, creating a robust and agile operational structure. We will discuss how this AI-driven approach transforms the ERP from a passive system of record into an active, intelligent engine for growth.

This session is designed for technology leaders, operations managers, and strategists who are tasked with driving real-world results and are seeking a proven, research-backed methodology for leveraging AI to build the intelligent, autonomous, and human-centric enterprises of the future.

Key Takeaways

  • Identifying the Execution Gap: A framework for diagnosing the disconnect between planning and execution within their own organizations.
  • The Human-Centric AI Model: Strategies for implementing AI not to replace, but to augment human expertise, capture the invaluable knowledge of a retiring workforce, and empower teams with predictive insights.
  • Leadership in Transformation: A discussion on the critical role of leadership, particularly women in technology, in championing and navigating the cultural and operational shifts required to build resilient, people-first, and highly efficient systems.
