Session: Women’s Health Reimagined: The Power of Wearable Technology
Over 1.5 billion women around the world lack essential health screenings and less than 60% of women report they have seen a doctor, nurse, or health provider in the last year. With reproductive health restrictions, racial disparities, a lack of knowledge and education, exclusion in research, and medical gaslighting, it’s urgent to address issues in women’s health equity and more important than ever to discuss how we can develop and improve solutions that support women’s health. Wearable devices and remote monitoring tools offer convenience and empower individuals to take proactive steps in their self-care journey. For women, navigating key aspects such as menstruation, fertility, contraception, pregnancy, postpartum care, and perimenopause/menopause is essential for improving and managing their health.
ŌURA (the smart ring that delivers personalized health data, insights, and daily guidance) has been a unique advocate for women’s health and constantly makes female-centric improvements to its technology. With partnerships like Natural Cycles to track fertility and features such as Cycle Insights that provide members with personalized and individual tracking, ŌURA is ensuring women receive the comprehensive care and support they deserve. ŌURA has also conducted extensive research on a variety of women’s health topics, including studies with Clue and UC Berkeley on perimenopause, ongoing research with the University of California, San Francisco, illuminating patterns for individuals with irregular menstrual cycles, and previous studies with the University of California San Diego and the University of California, Berkeley around women’s reproductive health.
During this session, Holly Shelton, Chief Product Officer at ŌURA, will share why women’s health-focused solutions are urgently needed, her first-hand experience designing Oura Ring with women’s health in mind, and what’s next for this space.
