Session: We need more contributors - my OSS story

Community shapes the software industry. Despite this understanding, open source communities continue to struggle to break down barriers and become more accessible to a more diverse pool of contributors, maintainers, and leaders.

The objective of this talk is to examine the ongoing difficulties within the open source community and to present strategies for promoting diversity and facilitating global collaboration within the community.

Key Takeaways

  • The benefits of having a diverse and inclusive open source community, such as improved innovation and problem-solving.
  • The role of leadership and mentorship in promoting diversity and inclusion within open source communities.
  • Specific tactics and tools that can be used to increase diversity and inclusion within open source communities, such as code of conduct, diversity and inclusion training, and safe space programs.
