Session: How Career Opportunities Actually Find You: The Hidden Mechanics of Professional Visibility
Career opportunities rarely come from being the most qualified person in the room. They come from being the person someone thinks of when a role, a project, or a conversation suddenly needs filling.
In this session, I'll unpack the often invisible mechanics behind how opportunities actually surface, particularly for women in tech. Drawing on patterns I've seen working with hundreds of women across technology, leadership, and consulting, I'll explain why so many high-performing women remain overlooked, and what creates lasting professional visibility without tipping into self-promotion.
This isn't a talk about confidence or storytelling. It's about how opportunities get triggered, how decision-makers remember expertise, and how visibility compounds over time. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to position themselves so the right opportunities find them, even when they're not actively looking.
Bio
Laura Taylor is a Founder and Professional Visibility Strategist at Social Flow Collective. In 2020, she discovered LinkedIn as a tool to create her own opportunities, growing from 186 connections to over 11,000 followers and attracting features in Forbes and Stylist along the way.
Through her work with hundreds of senior women across technology, leadership, and consulting, she noticed a pattern: high performers were being overlooked, not because they lacked talent, but because their visibility didn't match their capability. Strong work alone wasn't enough to get recognised. It needed to be seen.
Her mission is to help women in tech build the kind of professional visibility that keeps them top of mind for the right opportunities, without self-promotion or burnout.
