Session: AI Strategy vs. Reality: Where It Breaks

Most organizations today have an AI strategy. What’s less clear is why the results don’t always follow.

In practice, the issue usually isn’t the technology. It shows up in how work actually moves through the business. How decisions get made. And whether the operating model can support something like AI at all.

Working with companies across different stages and industries, I’ve seen a similar pattern play out. The ones getting traction aren’t necessarily using more advanced tools. They’re set up differently. The ones struggling aren’t behind on AI. They are misaligned in how the business runs.

This session takes a closer look at that gap between strategy and reality. Not as a capability issue. But as a management and operating model challenge.

Grounded in direct advisory work with organizations implementing AI in real operating environments, this talk focuses on where execution tends to break down, and why strategy on its own rarely carries through.

Attendees will leave with a practical way to spot where things are getting stuck, and how to realign workflows, decision-making, and accountability so AI investments start to produce results.

Key Takeaways

  • How to identify where AI strategy breaks down inside organizational structures and operating models.
  • The most common execution gaps, including workflows, decision ownership, and system misalignment, that prevent AI from delivering results.
  • A clear framework for aligning strategy, operations, and accountability to support effective AI adoption.
  • What leaders must prioritize to move from AI experimentation to measurable business outcomes.

Bio

Leslie Murdock is the Founder and CEO of DeZigning Digital, where she works at the intersection of AI, business strategy, and organizational transformation.

Her work focuses on a question most organizations are only beginning to confront: not what AI can do, but what it requires from the systems around it. Through advising a cross-section of companies across stages and industries, she has developed a clear view into where AI strategy breaks down in execution, and why results often fail to follow investment.

She brings a practical, systems-level perspective to AI adoption, helping leaders align strategy, operations, and decision-making to move from experimentation to measurable outcomes.
