Session: Seven people you need in your network

There is no successful career without a strong support system, no matter how good you are at what you’re doing. So, instead of overworking again with the hope that others will see it, take a close look at your network and learn how to use it to broaden your career prospects.
This session will give you insights on seven principal types of people whom you should keep close to grow professionally. We will give you tips and tricks on how to find them and invite you to write your own networking plan of action. From a mentor to a cheerleader, we guarantee a real pep talk on the power of women and why we need to create strong networks with each other to break that glass ceiling!

Key Takeaways

  • Your professional network is more important than you think. You need to invest in it and start using it strategically.
  • In your network you should have close contacts fitting those seven principal roles: 1. mentor, 2. sponsor, 3. connector, 4. internal ally, 5. recruiter/HR specialist, 6. expert and 7. cheerleader.
  • It's not the number of people you know, but the depth of the relationships you have with them that counts. Establish close bonds and nourish them over time.
  • Women are more likely to succeed professionally when they support each other. By practicing allyship we can strengthen our networks and empower each other.
  • For the seven principal roles in your network, pick people you naturally like and can connect with easily. Show them your authentic self and stay connected.

Bio

I am Magda Kufrej and I am a Senior Agile Consultant and a Co-Founder of Work Ally, a community of professional women ready to pull each other up, be open and vulnerable with each other, and persistent and courageous towards the outside world. By day, I work in a non-profit organisation engaging communities in European sustainability projects, by night I put on my Work Ally cape to coach women on how to get out of their comfort zone and reach out for the careers of their dreams.
