Session: Rewriting the Ladder: How Emerging Tech (And Non-Tech) Roles Are Redefining Career Growth

The traditional “ladder” of career growth in tech—engineer to manager to director—is quietly disappearing. In its place, a new ecosystem of roles is emerging at the intersection of technology, creativity, and human skills. From AI orchestrators and ethical design to customer intelligence and cross-functional leadership, tomorrow’s opportunities won’t fit neatly into yesterday’s boxes.

In this session, we’ll explore how emerging roles are reshaping what career advancement looks like—and how you can proactively position yourself to grow with these shifts. Drawing on insights from fast-moving tech companies that are reinventing job architecture, we’ll unpack how to identify future-fit skills, map your “adjacent next step,” and build visibility in a world where roles evolve faster than titles.

Key Takeaways

  • Spot the Shift: Recognize three major changes disrupting traditional career ladders in tech—and what’s replacing them.
  • Map Your Adjacent Next Step: Learn a simple framework to identify emerging roles that align with your existing skills and interests.
  • Future-Proof Your Growth: Discover which hybrid human + technical skills are most valuable in new, evolving career paths.
  • Build Career Visibility: Gain strategies for positioning yourself as a cross-functional contributor in dynamic, fast-changing environments.
  • Lead the Change: Understand how to advocate for and shape new roles within your own company or team.
