Session: The Invisible Borders: What Global Mobility Taught Me About Inclusive Culture

Diversity programs hire women. Inclusion programs welcome women. But what actually moves women forward in tech? That's a different question, and most companies haven't built the answer.
I've spent 20+ years moving people across borders. I am also Exec Sponsor of Women@EPAM, an ERG that grew from 1,000 to 2,000+ members in two years. From that intersection, I've learned something simple: the borders that hold women back in tech are usually invisible. Not the visas. The patterns: sponsorship, visibility, AI capability, how careers actually move inside our companies.
Visible borders have paperwork. Invisible borders have patterns. Both can be crossed, but only with infrastructure.
In this session, I'll share three invisible borders we made visible at Women@EPAM, and what global mobility, as a discipline, can teach inclusive culture work anywhere.

Key Takeaways

  • A new lens for inclusion work: the difference between visible borders (paperwork) and invisible borders (patterns) — and why both need infrastructure to cross
  • Why ERGs deliver business value only when built as infrastructure, not initiatives
  • How to make an ERG business-critical through AI capability building
  • The three-question filter that keeps ERG work focused on impact, not activity
  • What global mobility, as a discipline, can teach inclusive culture work in any organization
