Session: Navigating AI, Ethics, and User Research Practice
As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes the landscape of user research, practitioners face novel ethical considerations that extend beyond traditional research frameworks. This talk explores the intersection of AI technologies and user research, examining how emerging tools are transforming our ability to gather, analyze, and interpret user data while raising important questions about privacy, consent, and representation.
Drawing from real-world case studies and current industry practices, we'll delve into the ethical implications of AI-powered research tools, including automated sentiment analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive modeling. The discussion will address critical questions: How do we ensure meaningful consent when AI systems process user data in ways participants might not fully comprehend? What responsibilities do researchers bear in managing potential biases in AI-assisted analysis? How can we maintain the human element in research while leveraging AI's capabilities?
Attendees will gain practical insights into developing ethical frameworks for AI-integrated research practices, strategies for transparent communication with participants, and approaches to balancing technological innovation with user trust and wellbeing. This session aims to equip user researchers with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving landscape of AI-enhanced research while upholding the highest ethical standards in their practice.
