Session: An Immigrant’s Insights: How HR Can Empower a Global Workforce
In this session, I will share insights gained from my journey as an immigrant in HR. My goal is to connect the reality of immigrant struggles to the challenges international employees face daily in their careers. Consider these unsettling facts:
• A quarter of working immigrants feel overqualified for their jobs.
• More than half of employed immigrants are paid hourly wages.
• Half of all working immigrants report experiencing workplace discrimination.
Drawing on my personal experience and my work mentoring other immigrants and expats, I will explore:
• The unique barriers international employees face, both external and internal, and how these barriers prevent them from reaching their full potential.
• The ripple effect of these challenges on organizations, particularly in industries like technology that rely on global perspectives and diverse talent to stay competitive.
• Practical strategies organizations can implement to facilitate a more inclusive workplace, empower employees to thrive, strengthen team trust, and improve organizational effectiveness in a competitive global economy.
This session will resonate with many attendees, especially those who understand the value of diversity in strengthening teams and improving outcomes. I believe my message can help employers cultivate more effective and inclusive teams and help professionals from diverse backgrounds thrive.
