In today’s AI-driven landscape, building high-performing developer teams is more critical than ever for staying competitive, let alone afloat. Yet, the key to true team success lies beyond technical skills—it requires strong leadership and a commitment to inclusion. Tara Hernandez, VP of Developer Productivity at MongoDB, will share why inclusive leadership has been essential for sustaining a productive developer culture at MongoDB.

As a proud member of and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and executive sponsor of MongoDB’s QueLatine employee resource group, Tara knows we won’t get the best from our workforce if our employees don’t feel safe to be the same person in the conference room that they are in their living room. Drawing from her extensive experience leading engineering teams, Tara will share real-life examples of how fostering a culture of inclusivity not only enhances team dynamics but also drives productivity and creativity. Attendees will walk away with actionable strategies for maintaining an inclusive environment even in challenging political and economic climates.

Key Takeaways

  • Attendees will learn how to underscore the ROI of initiatives that support diversity, mentorship, and mental well-being—programs that are crucial for maintaining high-performing, inclusive teams.
  • Attendees will understand how to create an environment of psychological safety where team members feel safe sharing ideas and taking risks.
  • Attendees will learn how to identify and remove productivity blockers that disproportionately impact underrepresented groups.

Bio

Tara Hernandez has spent nearly thirty years evolving ways for companies to develop and ship software. She helped launch Mozilla.org and has been a firm proponent of open source ever since. She also thinks smart companies understand the business value of having a diverse employee base. Tara currently works at MongoDB, is a board member of a number of organizations focused on diversity in tech, and a trustee of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation.
