Session: Journey of Career Reinvention: Discovering & Thriving in Cybersecurity
This session shares my personal journey of transitioning into cybersecurity from a non-traditional background, navigating certifications, industry challenges, and personal growth along the way. Attendees will gain insights on how to reinvent their careers, overcome obstacles in male-dominated fields, and leverage their unique experiences to thrive in tech. I will also highlight practical strategies for continuous learning, networking, and leadership that helped me advance while advocating for online safety for children and families.
Bio
Zinet Kemal, is an immigrant from Ethiopia, a mother of four, senior cloud security engineer at Mayo Clinic, a career changer from the legal field, a multi-award-winning cybersecurity Practitioner, a TEDx speaker, 2x LinkedIn Learning instructor, 4x author & Mentor
Zinet is a Georgia Tech University graduate with a M.S. degree in Cybersecurity. She earned a B.S. degree in Computer Science and LLB degree in Law. She currently works at Mayo Clinic as a Senior a Cloud Security Engineer. Her award winning cybersecurity children’s books “Oh, No … Hacked Again!” & ‘See Yourself in Cybersecurity’ teaches children about the importance of online safety and sparks interest in young readers to consider cybersecurity as an exciting meaningful career option highlighting the various cybersecurity careers that await the next generation of trailblazers.
Her latest publication, Smished & Vished! Highlights an intergenerational family story of online safety in the age of AI.
