Session: You’re Not Lacking AI Talent. You’re Failing to Activate It

AI is scaling fast. But inside most organizations, participation is not.

We often talk about the lack of women in AI as a pipeline problem. But something more fundamental is happening: even when access exists, large parts of the workforce never meaningfully engage with AI at all.

This is not a skills issue. It is not a technology issue. It is a participation problem.

In this talk, Katrine Bach challenges how we think about AI adoption. Drawing on real work with companies implementing AI, she shows why the real bottleneck is not capability, but who actually uses AI, contributes to it, and shapes it inside organizations.

She introduces a simple but powerful shift: AI success is not about access. It’s about activation.

Through concrete examples, the talk explores why capable talent opts out, how invisible barriers limit participation, and why this is already impacting performance.

Because the real risk is not that women are missing from AI.

The real risk is that organizations are building the future with only a fraction of the talent available - while calling it progress.

Key Takeaways

  • AI success is not a talent or technology problem, it’s a participation problem. Organizations that learn to activate more of their existing talent will outperform those that don’t.
