Plans computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. Ensures accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools, such as base dictionaries. Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. Proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. Note: May be internal or external, client-focused, working in conjunction with Professional Services and outsourcing functions. May include company-wide, web-enabled solutions.

Working at NTT

The primary responsibility of the Database Administrator is to ensure the performance, integrity and security of databases and processes.  Individuals in this position contribute to the design of both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.

Database Administrators work closely with Change Control, Release Management, Asset and Configuration Management and Capacity and Availability Management to establish the needs of users, monitoring user access and security. They assist in controlling access to databases environments through permissions and privileges.

Key role and responsibilities:

  • Will support the Clients over email as well as phone.

  • Will be responsible for the uptime of the various client projects being managed / monitored.

  • Will report to the team leader.

  • Will have to report the daily/weekly/monthly basis database operation checklist.

  • Will make sure that the Tickets raised per shift are closed in the required time limits and if not escalated as per the escalation Matrix defined.

  • Raise and Update the tickets in NBSS for all the issues handled / worked upon.

  • Will have to report the daily issues handled / escalated in the form of Daily reports/checklist.

  • Apply RDBMS patches or upgrade the Edition/Instances as and when required, as per the approval from the respective Team Leaders.

  • Will have to do compliance audits of the setups done by the fellow engineers to make sure that the setup being handed over to the customer is done to the customer’s satisfaction.

  • Need to make sure that issues are handled in right time frames as per the SLA / commitments.

  • Will Work in a 24 X 7 Environment (NOC).

Knowledge, skills and attributes

  • Installation, configuration and upgrading of Microsoft SQL Server server software and related products.

  • Evaluate MSSQL features and MSSQL related products.

  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.

  • Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges).

  • Database performance tunning and optimization.

  • Setup and maintain documentation and standards.

  • Plan growth and changes (capacity management planning).

  • Work as part of a team and provide 24 * 7 supports when required.

  • Do general technical trouble shooting and give consultation to development teams.

  • Interface with MSSQL for technical support.

  • Must have SQL clustering installation troubleshooting skills.

  • Must have SQL logshipping /mirroing / replication installation and troubleshooting skills.

  • MSSQL DR drill executions and coordination’s.

  • T-SQL scripting knowledge for automation tasks.

  • ITIL Skill set requirement (Problem Management/Incident Good

  • Understanding of Windows

Academic qualifications and certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, information technology or relevant field

  • Relevant certification, such as MCSE DBA, oracles associate or equivalent

  • Relevant ITIL certification required

Experience required:

  • Proven experience working as a Database Administrator

  • Demonstrated experience with database backup and recovery best practices

  • Demonstrated experience running and creating health assessment reports

  • Demonstrated experience working with suppliers to deliver solutions

  • Demonstrated experience in Oracle Enterprise

  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft SQL Server

  • Demonstrated experience managing databases
