The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is currently looking for a talented DevOps Engineer to join our operations team at our Germany office in Darmstadt with remote option. You will work closely with a highly talented team of individuals and apply your knowledge of scripting, best practices, tools and technologies in an Agile Development Environment. The successful candidate will be a highly adaptable team player with a positive, supportive attitude, and a passion for delivering quality software. Our ideal candidate is a generalist who has previously fulfilled different roles.
 

Candidates must be able to legally work in the EU and be fluent in English.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the infrastructure
  • Develop pipelines and setups to automate builds and deployments and other tasks
  • Write, maintain, troubleshoot Kubernetes
  • Write and maintain monitoring, log aggregation and APM setup (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
  • Basic system provisioning and operations
  • Patch & update management
  • Production Deployments and Configurations
  • Collaborate with other teams on projects and provide recommendations support and guidance, e.g. for infrastructure and CI/CD
  • Maintain 24/7 availability for responsible systems and participate in paid on-call rotation

The Skillset:

Required:

  • 3+ years of Linux experience
  • 3+ years of system administration, networking, automation, monitoring
  • Experience with cloud technologies (GCP)
  • A solid understanding of Microservices architectures, containerization, isolation and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, docker compose, helm charts)
  • A solid understanding of system monitoring and tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
  • Experience in CI/CD (Github actions, Gitlab runners, Jenkins)
  • Experience in system automation programming (e.g. Bash, Python, Yaml/Json)
  • Experience with Linux/Unix for deployment, automation and troubleshooting
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform)
  • A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts.
  • Ability to work effectively on a self-organizing team with minimal supervision
  • Initiative in communicating with co-workers, asking questions and learning
  • Proactive and creative problem solver with the ability to multitask and manage tight deadlines

Nice to Haves: 

  • Experience with Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, IIS, JBoss, Java, ELK, RabbitMQ, Chef, Ruby, LDAP
  • Experience with different OS (Ubuntu/Debian/CentOS/Oracle Linux, Windows servers)
  • Experience with different hypervisors (VMware ESXi, XEN)
  • Exposure to working in Agile software development environment
  • Able to communicate in German
